GENERAL TATTOO INFORMATION

At Emerald Sun Studios, each tattoo is approached as a thoughtful, collaborative process. Our studio is home to four talented artists, each with their own specialties, styles, and creative voices. Whether you already know who you’d like to work with or you’re simply exploring ideas, our booking inquiry form is the best place to begin. You can select a specific artist or submit a general inquiry, and we’ll help pair you with the artist who is the best fit for your project.

While we strive to accommodate as many inquiries as possible, there are times when an artist’s books may be full or a project may not align with what they are currently taking on. In those cases, we’ll always do our best to guide you toward someone who would be a great match for your idea, either within our studio or elsewhere locally.

Most of our work is custom. You’re welcome to describe your idea in as much detail as you can when filling out the form, sizing, placement, reference photos, and any stylistic preferences all help your artist create something original for you. Many of our artists also post available flash designs and personal tattoo ideas on their social media pages if you’re looking for inspiration.

Pricing varies by artist. Some charge hourly, some quote by the piece, and many factors depend on the size, style, and complexity of the tattoo. To get a specific quote, the best approach is to reach out to the artist directly once your inquiry has been reviewed. Our shop minimum is $100.

We want every appointment to feel comfortable and enjoyable, and your artist will guide you through everything you need to know along the way.

FAQS

How do I book a tattoo appointment?

Fill out the booking inquiry form on our website. You can select a specific artist or choose a general inquiry if you’re unsure. We’ll place you with the artist whose style aligns with your project.

Why might my inquiry not be accepted?

Sometimes artists are fully booked or focusing on certain styles. If your project isn’t a match or we’re unable to accommodate you at this time, we will always do our best to point you toward another artist who would be a good fit.

Do your artists take custom projects?

Yes. Most of our work is custom. Describe your idea in as much detail as possible, include reference photos, and your artist will design a piece for you. You can also explore artists’ social media pages for available flash designs.

How does pricing work?

Pricing varies by artist. Some work hourly, some use flat-rate pricing depending on the tattoo. The overall cost depends on size, style, and detail. Our shop minimum is $100. For an accurate quote, your assigned artist will communicate with you directly.

Can I bring someone with me?

In most cases, one friend or support person is allowed. Because our studio can get busy and space can be limited, we may not be able to accommodate more than one guest, especially on fully booked days. When in doubt, ask your artist ahead of time.

How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?

Arrive well-rested, well-hydrated, and having eaten a full meal. Bring water and snacks, especially for longer sessions. Avoid alcohol for 48 hours before your appointment.

Can I use numbing cream?

No. Numbing creams or numbing agents are not currently legal to use before or during tattoo procedures in the state of Michigan. If numbing cream has been applied, we will need to reschedule your appointment.

Do you tattoo minors?

In general, we tattoo clients 18 and older. Occasionally, an artist may be willing to tattoo a minor with a parent or legal guardian present, depending on the project and at the artist’s discretion. Many of our artists choose not to tattoo minors at all. This is handled on a case-by-case basis.

What paperwork is required for minors?

We require:

  • A valid, government-issued photo ID for the parent or legal guardian

  • Documentation that shows the relationship (birth certificate, court guardianship papers, etc.)

  • A valid ID for the minor.

All names must match. If they do not match due to name changes, marriage, etc., additional documentation will be required to establish the connection.
